Apps4 Africa: State Department Driving Collaboration through Competition
SODNET, Ushahidi (www.ushahidi.com) and the Innovation Hub of Nairobi (iHUB) were yesterday featured on the White House blog. The organizations have been taking lead in a competition that brings together technology developers, civil society and citizens in a conversation that will lead to the development of ICT tools that could improve the lives of citizens.
The organizations have been lauded for making Apps 4 Africa a success. Apps 4 Africa is a regional contest that enables citizens and civil society to propose challenges via twitter (#apps4africa) and website (www.apps4africa.org) for technology developers to create applications. The contest was scheduled to run from July 1 till August 31 in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda.

The contest had been officially inaugurated by the Under Secretary of State, Ms. Judith McHale during a recent visit to Kenya. The contest is being coordinated by Joshua Goldstein who has been instrumental in the contest’s success.
