SODNET has nurtured the Futa Magendo Action Network comprising of self driven grass roots monitors focusing on accountability in general and anti corruption and service delivery concerns in particular. The network has over the years mitigated on local incidences of corruption with SODNET providing support through referrals and capacity building. Since the year 2000, FMAN has grown into a strong grassroots network of activists covering over fifty one districts in Kenya.
The Futa Magendo Action Network as we call them have been a platform for collective action and reference point for different actors in civil society to engage in public resource and anti corruption watch. The network has relied on the resources of individuals or at times, those of SODNET to facilitate communication or provide capacity tools and referrals to specialized organisations e.g. for legal redress or land issues. The FMAN have acquired skills (writing letters, working with Kenya Anti Corruption Commission, escalating to the media) and have been able to resolve corruption/service delivery concerns, at times, without difficulties.
The network has been instrumental in assisting SODNET contribute effectively to the Annual Social Watch Report that measures government’s commitment the Copenhagen WSSD accord with specific emphasis on poverty and gender. See Social Watch Page.
FUTA MGENDO are swahili words meaning "eradicate corruption".
